The Upper Forest Springs Reunion was a fantastic success.  More than 300 people attended the weekend of 25/26 October 2008 and were unanamous in their praise.

During his opening speech committee chairman Allan Darr said he was "thrilled and pleased to see that the hard work of the members had been rewarded so handsomely with such a great turn out."

The pavillion was the place to catch up and reminisce with old friends, some of whom had not seen each other for many, many years.  The displays of family photos and memorabilia from generations past and present were a big hit with everybody and a credit to those families who supplied them.

The Allora Historical Society had kindly loaned an almost complete school classroom, pieces of which had actually come from the UFS School.

The Warwick Veteran and Vintage Vehicle Club supplied vintage tractors, cars and trucks and there were one or two pieces of old farming equipment to take memory back to the way it was in days gone by.

During the morning on Saturday an old-fashioned school sports day was run for the children and those 'young at heart and  body'.  All the old favourites, egg and spoon, 3 legged, tin, potato, & skipping races, and boot tossing provided fun for all.  Winners were rewarded with a coin and a home made lolly bag.

After lunch the official duties got under way with chairman Allan Darr opening the event, followed by Ray Hopper MP, Member for Darling Downs and Shadow Minister for Natural Resources and Water, who launched the committees book on the history and settlement of the Upper Forest Springs district.  It was then over to former Head Teacher Mr Kev Oswin to make the first UFS roll call in 47 years.

After the roll call 37 former pupils and teachers gathered for a class photo.  This group included the oldest pupil present on the day, 91-year-old Mr Bill Chard who enrolled at the school in 1924.  Former Teacher Mrs Ilma Cavanagh cut the official cake to a rousing round of applause.

Two bus trips took approximately 100 people around the district to see the sites of the gone but not forgotten buildings and other places of significant interest, commitee members suppling commentary for those whose memories may have been a bit foggy.

The book that we had for the reunion has sold out, we are considering putting the book on a CD and offering it for sale to anyone that might be interested. We would be intertested in your thoughts on that, so Email us and tell us if youare interested.
